The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued various guidelines for sending Bulk SMS in India. The latest guidelines issued by TRAI are as follows:
Regulatory Compliance: All entities sending bulk SMS must comply with the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR) 2018, which requires them to be registered with the telecom regulator and obtain a unique registration ID (URID) for sending SMS.
Message Templates: All messages sent as part of bulk SMS campaigns must use pre-approved templates that comply with the TCCCPR guidelines.
Consent: Consent of the recipient is mandatory before sending any promotional or marketing messages. The consent should be obtained through an explicit opt-in process, and the sender must maintain records of the consent.
Sender ID: All bulk SMS messages must be sent from a registered 6-character alpha ID. The sender ID should not be misleading, and it should not be used to send messages that violate the TCCCPR guidelines.
DND (Do Not Disturb) Registry: The sender must ensure that messages are not sent to recipients who have registered their numbers in the DND registry.
Message Content: The content of the message must not be objectionable, and it should not contain any content that is prohibited by law or violates the TCCCPR guidelines.
Time Restrictions: Messages should not be sent between 9 pm and 9 am, except for transactional messages.
It is important for all entities sending bulk SMS in India to comply with these guidelines to avoid penalties and legal action.
